Matt Chapman, Physician Assistant — Certified
At the age of 21 and still a student, Matt was diagnosed with malignant melanoma and began a serious battle for his life. He was one of the first patients to enter an experimental treatment regimen using a tumor vaccine. During this time, he reevaluated his life and began to dream about taking a more active role in helping patients. As a result, he pursued the goal of becoming a physician assistant. In 1996, in remission from his cancer, Matt received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. While at UT Southwestern, Matt was president of the John Paul North Physician Assistant Student Society. He continued his career in orthopedics working in sports medicine and total joint replacement, later focusing on treatment of the spine. In 2000, Matt joined Dr. John Peloza and the Center for Spine Care team to work in orthopedic spine surgery. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and holds the title of Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C). In addition, Matt is licensed by the Texas State Board of Physicians Assistant Examiners and is recognized as a fellow member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Physican Assistants in Orthopedic Surgery and the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants. Matt, his wife Karen and two children live in Plano. Karen is an author who has recently published her first novel, "Janeology". In his spare time, Matt enjoys travel with his family and going off-roading in his 1976 Ford Bronco Rock-Crawler. |
